I Done Did Gone & Done It Again

Do you ever blurt out things and then say to yourself "What the HELL was I thinking?" I do it all the time. There is a reason, really. The filter from my brain to my vocal cords is disintegrating over time, and it doesn't always function appropriately. It is a real medical condition. I am looking for medication even now.

So, I did it again and opened mouth before brain was engaged. Whilst visiting with the family this past weekend, my middle sister, or Sista G as she is calling herself these days, told me of a challenge she is playing in.

Seems some friends invited them to go on a cruise in July with a bunch of people, and they have turned it into their own version of a "Biggest Loser" contest. Everyone who is going on the cruise, if they want to play along, has to lose 10% of their body weight by cruise time or suffer dire consequences. I don't know, the losers will have to dance naked on the Lido deck or something. If they do lose the weight, they get something really cool, like a free cruise around the world I think, so you know I wanted to play along.

I'm not going on the cruise, but I figured it was another incentive for me to get off by butt and continue with the reasons I started this daggum blog in the first place. I'm already involved in something similar with my buddy in Texas, although I think both of us had conveniently forgotten about it. Sorry BuckyKatt.

Now I have to work at it again and have 2 parties I am answerable to. Sheesh.

And these cruise freaks (to borrow Sista's word) don't let you sneak away and do this in the dark. There is a weekly weigh-in that is announced to the entire cruising world, or so it seems. And I have to have a NAME. A whack name. An anatomically correct, insulting name.

Whaaaaaat have I done? These are the players during this body-mass-melt-down (real name portions omitted):
  • Tubby
  • Freak Overload
  • Wobble
  • Wide Load
  • Porker
  • Chubby
I will be known as "Busty Boomer". I have 96 days to go. Hey wait, I got a late start, so I only have to lose 9%, right?

Listen people, I am not posting a picture of myself in a thong no matter what the reward.

ps - I'm trying to convince BS to join in. He said "What's the reward?" I said that for us, it will be the unbridled joy of looking ourselves in the mirror and knowing we have added years to our lives and greater pleasure for the people having to look at us. Isn't that enough reward? He said "Nope. These M&M's taste pretty damn good."

Abrupt change of subject alert!! Why do I get excited when I find out I'm getting a nice tax refund. It was my money to begin with, right? But I can't help it. Feels like Christmas.

I feel the same about tax refunds ... and I also need to work on the brain to mouth filter. :) You should ask me about 'vampire mom' sometime. Yeah, not my best moment of brain filter. I feel your pain.

I am going to lose some weight, but I sure won't show up in a thong either.

High Kathy,

This is Chubby Mehaffey. I am the crazy person who started all of this. It is very satisfying to here that you will be joining our journey to a longer more healthier way of life. This truly is awesome!! Good luck to you yo and yes you can do it. I was 272 lbs when I started and I have lost 51lbs to date. I never would have thought it was possible. I always had the attitude that I would rather have what every I want to eat or drink and live a shorter life than feel like I would be miserable, not have what I wanted to eat or drink and live longer.

Boy ways I wrong!! Thinking that food and alcohol made me happy. Feeling healthy, having energy, feeling more confident, people commenting on how well you look, being given the opportunity to enjoy more time on this planet with people who love us and care about us allowing this part of our journey to last longer and inspiring other people is a thousand times more satisfying than being FAT.

My hat is off to you, and yes you can do it!! You have all ready taken the first step. You have chosen to get healthy and stay healthy. Good for you. A couple tips ( not that I am an expert) eat small meals every two or three hours. Find out how many calories you need to consume to loose weight. Then make it a goal to eat 300 ot 400 calories less than is recommended. Most people under estimate how many calories they really consume. eating every few hours allows you to stay hunger free. Alcohol should be reduced as much as possible if not eliminated at least during this transition. Try and exercise as much as you can. I exercise for a minimum of one hour every night. I know that sounds like a lot, however after a while you will want to exercise instead of pushing to exercise. You will find that when you exercise you will hundred times more energy and that becomes hone addicting. You will like the way you look and feel. The stores ae filled with 100 calorie snacks. You can eat any kind of food you like, just not a lot of it. I eat at Burger King once a week.Whopper Jr with out the mayo is only 280 calories. My daily calorie intake is around 1200 t0 1400 calories a day. I am never hungry and I have plenty of energy. i never feel deprived. I miss my beer, however once I hit my goal weight of 195 or 77 lbs lighter I am sure i will a few beers on the weekends. I plan to stay regimen during the week and take weekends off when I go into the maintaining mode.

Any how rambling on, so good to have you with us on our journey. By the way your sister is something else. I love her energy. By the way our next weigh in is in two weeks from this past sunday. I look forward to you r weigh in. By the way, if your friend, Buckykatt wants to be a part of our journey, that would be great to. We are her to support you guys and help keep you focused and inspired.

Peace

I am ecstatic that you two are joining me in this endeavor. Fortunately, most of the cruise folks have never seen me, and so can't envision the "before" picture! The years make the pounds creep up on us, that's fr shr!!

Love you, Rootie and Bean!

Another good book to help you make smart choices is (eat this not that) you will be ammazed how many calories are in some of the food you think is healthy for you. If you have and iPhone there are several apps that give you calorie information on all food. I even have a fast food app. Very helpful when you are on the run.

Stay positive and keep up the good work.

I am glad to see that you are eating healthy and getting some exercise. I have not herd much about King Hippo, how is he doing? Remember the pounds did not add up in one day nor will they come off in one day. Stay consistent, some weeks you will loose more than others. Weight lifting is also a way to reduce fat quicker. The reason for this is that you will start to build muscle which will boost you metabolism. this is good, however keep in mind that if you are building muscle and reducing fat, you will most likely not see much of a change on the scale, since muscle weighs more than fat. You really should take measurements of all areas of your body to get a true reed. You will be amazed where you loose weight. Fo r example, my flip flops where so stretched out from being over weight, that once I lost the weight the don't fit. Who would of thought you would loose weight in your feet. You usually loose weight in all areas, your arms, especially your face, legs, oh yea and the ass goes to, the belly fat will come however you will probable see changes in other areas first. Remember stay focused, don't allow yourself to get discouraged, some weeks will be better than others. You can do this!! You oh this to yourself. Live life and be happy. To be healthy is to be young.

Here is a thought for the day for you and your son;

"Let Healing Power Flow Through You"

When you're feeling unwell, remember that the same power that actually made your body knows how to restore it to its original state of well-being. All you have to do is remove the obstacles erected by you and your toxic world, and allow this healing power to flow through you.

By the way to all you other bloggers out there. Inspiring Kathy & Peter with positive reinforcement and encouraging them to stay on a healthy track is much better for them than tempting them with unhealthy foods and activity. They need your support!! So if your going to go eat a greasy cheese burger, keep it to yourself.

Peace
