I have a little problem.
I have been spending way too much time on the computer.
Between e-mails, this stupid blog, finding a lot of my old friends on Facebook,
blah, blah, blah, etc, etc, etc,
the machine of doom has begun to rule my free time.
SO . . .
BS & I tried a little experiment yesterday. I put up a status message about it on Facebook:
"...will spend the whole day tomorrow without the internet. No blog, no daily jigsaw puzzle, no e-mail, no reading other people's stuff, no Facebook (ergo no Farmtown). It's an experiment. Will I live? Certainly. Will it be good for me? Probably. By the end of the day will I be in the corner sucking my thumb? Likely."
The verdict? It was a surprisingly quiet, peaceful & tranquil day. I didn't even have the television on very much as background noise. I read a book. I went out for lunch with BS & my mother. I read some more. I made muffins.
BS? He slept till 11:00 this morning, went to lunch with us, went straight to work and worked until 9:00 pm, then went out with friends. Wasn't so much of a hardship for him.
And no, I wasn't to be found in the corner sucking my thumb.
It was a nice, enjoyable day. I may just do this on a regular basis.
Although, at 12:01 am, I fired up this thing to post about it. What does that mean?

Yes, unplugging from the one-eyed monster has become a tough task of toil! Too many have indeed become cyber-addicted, making them all twitter-pated (even a more appropriate term now - thanks Friend Owl!)
If it weren't for work, I wouldn't go on my computer but once a week!
I don't understand the need to make an effort to stay away from the computer. Are you trying to make some kind of statemetn? This sounds like some hoity-toity, liberal, greenie, I'm-a-better-person-than-you thingy! OK...maybe I've over-reacted to your quiet day. ;-)
Seriously, unless your computer use is becoming a personal problem, I see no reason to turn it off. Americans tend to over-generalize problems (see, I just did it) and respond with a knee-jerk reaction that may, or may not, help solve the real or perceived problems.
Glad you enjoyed your quiet day. I spent my quiet day working on my photos, and that requires me to tickle at least one of my computers.
RAD
Gee RAD, don't hold back. It's bad for the stomach. Tell us how you really feel. :-)
I only avoided those things that tend to consume my free time. Seeing as how I can look at my living room and see cobwebs & dust bunnies, and knowing the piles of laundry that await me, I figure spending a little more time on my surroundings can't be a bad thing.
And, I love my trees and reusable grocery bags (while I'm totally killing those same trees with all the paper towels I use on a daily basis).
G - I won't even try to Twitter. Who the hell cares if I am getting ready to go to bed or having a lovely margarita at any given moment? Not to mention that I don't care if they are either. But "unplugging from the one-eyed monster" totally sounds dirty. Heh.
You do know that was a (maybe poorly delivered) joke, right?
RAD
Of course I do you big goof.
So, like nothing about your crazy, savant-like ability at corn-hole?
OK, Kathy and Brother - that sure begs for clarification!! Corn-hole???
As to savant-like ability, BH calls me Rainman - he says I'm a savant, too!!
Sista - Cornhole is another name for bean-bag toss. But my exposure to Beavis & Butthead throughout BS's childhood (compounded by the problem that I have all the maturity of the proverbial 12 year old) makes my mind go totally somewhere else when I hear the term cornhole.
So, the whole savant thing must run in the family, eh?
